Piano on Fire - The Show

At first, we wanted to set fire to a grand piano, but the Swiss government intervened and said, ‘You can't set rubbish on fire.’ So now we're setting off fireworks from the piano while heavenly pieces are played. We are ‘the 3 guys’ – piano builder Josias Sigrist, pyrotechnician Janosch Bär and pianist Ivan Horvatic.

The show lasts half an hour and is packed with fiery surprises! The programme was arranged by Ivan Horvatic and set alight with pyrotechnics by Janosch Bär.

Performances can be held outdoors and indoors, during the day and in the evening. We achieve the greatest effect at dusk, as this is when both flames and pyrotechnics are shown to their best advantage.

Unique pianist

Ivan Horvatic is one of the most talented Croatian pianists of his generation. In 2010, following a solo piano concert in Zagreb, he was invited to meet with the then President of Croatia, Ivo Josipović. Horvatic holds master's degrees from both the Zurich University of the Arts and the Zagreb Academy of Music. He has performed with the Kiev Symphony Orchestra and has been featured on Croatian and German television.

The world's only pyro grand piano

Our co-star on stage is a Steinway & Sons grand piano from Piano Sigrist's grand piano collection. The piano has been optimised for Piano on Fire and equipped with special mountings, launch mechanisms and effects. This piano is unique in the world!

The most frequently asked questions about Piano on Fire

Can't find your question here? No problem, just get in touch and we'll be happy to help!
Is Piano on Fire subject to the permit requirement for fireworks?

Piano on Fire works with category T1 technical fireworks in its basic programme. In most cases, no special permit is required for outdoor use. However, we always clarify this point when you make your enquiry and keep you informed.
If you would like additional aerial fireworks, Janosch from AKindofFire will take care of the necessary permits.

If Piano on Fire is not permitted due to a fire ban imposed by the canton or municipality (after order confirmation), a flat fee of 50% remains payable. This amount can be credited in full if the show is rescheduled within 3 months. After 3 months, the option to reschedule expires and a new offer will be made upon request.

What happens if the event is cancelled or cannot take place due to weather conditions?

If the event or performance by Piano on Fire is cancelled by the client after
signing the offer/order confirmation, a flat-rate fee will be charged.
This is calculated as a percentage of the total amount of the order (excluding travel and permit costs).
a. up to 1 week after signing the contract 20%
b. up to 6 weeks before the event 30%
c. up to 1 week before the event 40%
d. less than 1 week before the event 80%
e. 1 day before the event / during the event 100%

(For us, the event always begins with the dispatch/delivery of the materials for your event. Accordingly, the decisive factor is NOT the day of the event itself, but the transport date of the grand piano).

Can the show take place in all weather conditions?

As the piano is a genuine acoustic concert grand piano, it reacts like all acoustic grand pianos to the corresponding weather conditions. The concert can take place outdoors, but not in rain, snowfall or strong winds.

Set-up can take place in the rain, as we have packed the grand piano in weatherproof packaging and can protect it from the elements with our own tent. There must be a break in the rain of at least 2 hours before the concert and half an hour after the concert, i.e. a total of three hours.

Can Piano on Fire also be booked outside Switzerland?

Our show can be booked worldwide! We will come to wherever your event is taking place and support you with the local implementation.

The price for shows abroad differs from Swiss prices and must be assessed on a case-by-case basis. The grand piano and equipment can be shipped worldwide. We have experience in international transport and will take care of the necessary arrangements. Support from local pyrotechnicians is essential, as each country has its own regulations.

We (the three lads) are open to collaborations and joint performances and look forward to hearing from you!

Is the show suitable for animals and the environment?

With ‘Piano on Fire’, we have created an environmentally friendly, sustainable and joyful show. The pyrotechnics used are as quiet as possible so that the piano music can be fully appreciated and the fauna is not disturbed. By reusing the main objects, we can ensure sustainability.

How much does it cost to book Piano on Fire?

Our basic fee includes the grand piano, the half-hour performance with pianist Ivan Horvatic, pyrotechnics by AKindofFire and the stage with the necessary accessories.
The basic fee for the half-hour outdoor show is slightly lower than for the half-hour indoor show. As location-specific adjustments usually have to be made, each case is considered individually and quoted accordingly.

The basic fee does not include, for example: permits and their procurement (necessary in certain locations – enquire if necessary), travel expenses for staff and equipment, board and lodging, implementation of individual requests (e.g. a specific piano piece, additional aerial fireworks, etc. – but we do make dreams come true!).

Can I book Piano on Fire anywhere in Switzerland or even worldwide?

You can book the show ‘Piano on Fire’ throughout Switzerland and even worldwide. With the ‘three guys’, we have a complete solution that travels with the show and brings this unique spectacle to your stage.

In this case, this means that Piano Sigrist is responsible for the entire organisation, including transport of the crew, materials and implementation. Piano Sigrist is supported in this by AKindofFire, who are responsible for the pyrotechnics.
